Hiking in Lapland

Hetta-Pallas Hiking Trail - 50km in easy 4 days

Day 1

Flashback - August 2014

One of the most popular hiking trails in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is the 55-km-long Hetta-Pallas Hiking Trail.

The route for this trail was outlined in 1934. The trail leads over fells, sometimes descending to the ravines below to once again top of the next fell for a breathtaking view.

We started our trip 05.08.2014 at 12:30 from Hetta.

Hetta is a village in the municipality of Enontekiö, and that municipality's administrative centre, in Lapland in north-western Finland.

First of all, we crossed Lake Ounasjärvi by boat. Starting the trail on a wonderful beach I didn't expect.

Food for 4 Days, unusually hot summer temperatures,  ~55km ahead of us, 14-17 Kg backpack per person, 1 tent and 4 Swiss Army knives

Hetta - Pyhäkero 6,7 km until first break.

The trail travels through pine forest all the way to Pyhäkero open wilderness hut. There we enjoyed already first coffee and Dinner.

Pyhäkero - Sioskuru 8 km

We continued and started to climb from Pyhäkero open wilderness hut to the top of the fell. It  starts gentle but becomes steeper as it approaches the peak.

The view of North Lapland is amazing. We didn't walk long until we crossed the first herd of Reindeers.

Still over 28 degrees, but dark clouds from the back and stronger wind keeps us away from an other brake - fast to  Sioskuru before we get in to a thunderstorm.

The first raindrops we felt just before arriving in the camp - a breathtaking first day.
